讓傳統和現代在劇場裡接軌
1986年，一群戲曲演員意識到傳統藝術的優勢不再，開始認真思索如何使傳統戲曲與當代劇場接軌。在藝術總監吳興國的帶領下，「當代傳奇劇場」於焉誕生。
自創團以來，當代傳奇劇場年年應邀赴國外演出，改編自莎士比亞悲劇《馬克白》的創團作《慾望城國》，將傳統京戲的唱、唸、作、打融入西方經典，並以劇場形式呈現，成功地顛覆了東西方傳統舞台，締造跨文化、跨界戲劇美學。

除了大刀闊斧的創新，劇團對於傳統培育更是不遺餘力。年年辦理京劇人才培育的《傳奇學堂》和《傳奇風雅》，進行經典傳統劇目的傳習與公演。
為了拉近與年輕世代的距離，劇團亦大膽創作充滿青春活力的《搖滾水滸108三部曲》和《嘻哈兄妹串戲》系列，成功將當代流行元素與古典戲曲串聯，受到廣大青年觀眾熱烈喜愛。
2016年，劇團更進一步成立《興傳奇》青年劇場》，旨在孕育下一代核心人才，展現更青春活潑、多元跨界、創意自由的藝術發展版圖。

Bridging Tradition and Modernity in the Theatre
In 1986, a group of traditional opera actors realized that traditional arts were losing their edge. They began to seriously consider how to connect traditional opera with contemporary theatre. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Wu Hsing-kuo, the "Contemporary Legend Theatre" was born.
Since its inception, the Contemporary Legend Theatre has been invited to perform abroad every year. Its founding work, Kingdom of Desire—an adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth—integrates the singing, chanting, acting, and acrobatics of traditional Peking Opera into Western classics. Presented in a modern theatrical format, it successfully subverted traditional stages of both East and West, creating a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dramatic aesthetic.

The troupe's international footprint covers prestigious venues such as London's Royal National Theatre, the Festival d'Avignon in France, the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, and the Edinburgh International Festival, pushing Taiwan's contemporary opera aesthetics to the world's peak.

Beyond bold innovation, the troupe spares no effort in nurturing tradition. Every year, it organizes "The Legendary Academy" and "Legendary Elegance" to train Peking Opera talents and conduct performances of classic traditional repertoires.
To close the distance with the younger generation, the troupe also created the vibrant Rock Water Margin 108 Trilogy and Hip-Hop Brother and Sister Series, successfully connecting contemporary pop elements with classical opera, winning the hearts of young audiences.
In 2016, the troupe established the "Hsing Legend Youth Theatre" to cultivate the next generation of core talent, showcasing a youthful, multi-disciplinary, and creatively free map of artistic development.
