In 2026, Verona, the Italian city of drama and home of Romeo and Juliet, hosted a globally anticipated Shakespearean cultural event. To commemorate the 410th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and the 50th anniversary of the International Shakespeare Association (ISA), the flagship World Shakespeare Congress took place from July 20 to 26, gathering experts from 48 countries in an unprecedented scale.
Centered around the theme "Planetary Shakespeares," the congress integrated with the Milano Cortina Cultural Olympiad. The event featured cross-cultural adaptations at the Shakespeare Fringe Festival, digital exhibitions, and grand opera performances at the Arena di Verona.

Contemporary Legend Theatre’s innovative production, "Julius Caesar", directed by Wu Hsing-kuo, was chosen as the primary visual for the festival’s promotion. As the only performing arts troupe from Asia, CLT captured the heart of the international Shakespearean community, a milestone of profound cultural significance.
On the evening of July 24, "Julius Caesar" was performed at the 2,000-year-old Teatro Romano di Verona. To reenact Caesar’s story in the very ruins that witnessed the rise and fall of the Roman Empire created a perfect convergence of history and drama. The performance concluded with a thunderous standing ovation and rhythmic stamping—a passionate Italian tradition to show extreme appreciation.
